If the author of an article or publication wishes to publish it in a periodical (including an online periodical), he/she will have to deal with the publisher of the periodical concerned. The author needs to know what copyright matters must be arranged. We deal below with a number of questions about contracts with publishers.
1. Does it matter if I don’t make any arrangements with a publisher?
2. I once signed a contract with a publisher. What effect will that have?
3. What if I decide not to sign a contract proposed by a publisher?
4. What arrangements does one make with a publisher?
5. Does my publisher also have rights in respect of publications that I have not yet written?
6. If a new medium is invented – in the same way as the Internet was – can I decide for myself what I want to do with my material?
7. What is copyright? (and transfer of copyright)?
8. Will a publisher still publish my article if it is already available online as a preprint?
9. Can I make changes to my publisher’s standard contract?
10. What is the situation regarding arrangements with a foreign publisher?
