Licence to Deposit
Storing a scientific/scholarly work and/or data files in an institution’s repository is a copyright-protection action for which:
- the author must give consent;
- the author and the institution (as the body managing the repository) must make arrangements regarding:
- the way the work will be made accessible;
- the conditions under which that will be done.
SURF has developed its own Licence to Deposit in order to record these arrangements.
The licence includes provisions for:
- depositing the work and/or the data files;
- making the work available to third parties without any restrictions;
- arrangements for an embargo period (if applicable);
- the obligations of the manager of the repository.
The Licence to Deposit was developed by SURF in collaboration with JISC and the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). It is available in both Dutch and English.
