Six expert reports and recommendations on Institutional Repository development are now available on www.knowledge-exchange.info
The outcomes of the Knowledge Exchange expert workshop on Institutional Repositories (IR), which took place at the SURF offices in Utrecht, the Netherlands on 16 and 17 January 2007, are now available on the Knowledge Exchange website. The direct link to the reports is www.knowledge-exchange.info/Default.aspx?ID=102
In six challenging reports, experts from seven European countries make recommendations on the IR-related topics: Usage Statistics, Metadata Standards, Metadata Exchange Formats, OAI Harvesting, Author Identifiers and eTheses.
The Knowledge Exchange workshop on Institutional Repositories was the first in a row of activities organised by Knowledge Exchange. Seventy experts and moderators from eight European countries were invited to explore how best to achieve interoperability between institutional repositories. Their active participation has led to the creation of a set of recommendations aimed at resolving current problematic issues and concerns.
Experts and programme directors within the Knowledge Exchange partner organisations will now study the reports, prior to a decision on how the recommendations can be taken forward within the partner programmes.

Knowledge Exchange partner organisations JISC in the United Kingdom, SURF in the Netherlands, DEFF in Denmark, and DFG in Germany, initially decided to support collaborative activities in three key areas: institutional repositories, national licensing and sustainability. The goal is to add value to the existing activities of each partner organisation by sharing knowledge, planning collaboratively, and focusing on joint development.
