Focus Areas:

SURF encourages ICT-driven innovation in higher education. We collaborate with institutions in the sector in order to invest in innovation projects and make the results available to all such institutions. We also focus on cross-institutional knowledge generation, knowledge sharing, and professional development.

Programmes
We carry out our projects within the context of larger programmes: the Nationwide Programme e-Learning  and 'Study Choice Interviews: What Works?'. Both programmes concern the intake of students into higher education, their study success, and their choice of study programme. In 2011 SURF launched the Open Educational Resources Programme.

Professional development
The SURFacademy is SURF’s training and professional development programme focusing on ICT in higher education. It allows ICT and education professionals to brush up their professional knowledge and skills. The SURFacademy website gives detailed information about the schools, master classes, workshops, and expertise seminars currently on offer.

Innovatie in onderwijsKnowledge sharing
Everything we do, we do with others. Collaboration is the essence of our organisation. One of our core activities is to initiate and maintain human networks for knowledge sharing. For example, we facilitate Special Interest Groups (SIGs), in which experts share their knowledge of specific topical issues. The interactive website www.surfspace.nl is the education gateway for and by ICT and education professionals. During our annual event, Dé Onderwijsdagen, we present the latest trends and innovations in education. SURF also organises study trips to relevant ICT conferences, such as Educause (USA).
