Green ICT and sustainable higher education is a “hot topic”. This page lists relevant publications.

Study Higher education sector can save millions on energy used for ICT [Hoger onderwijs kan miljoenen besparen op energieverbruik ICT]. A study by SURFfoundation and Agentschap NL has shown that higher education institutions could definitely make a 44% reduction in the amount of energy consumed by the ICT equipment at their workstations and data centres. This would result in a saving of millions of euros. The study covered nine institutions, both research universities and “universities of applied sciences” [hogescholen].
In June 2011, the board of the platform ICT and Business Management of SURFfoundation has embraced the policy paper “From Ambition to Action: towards a Long-range Programme for Green ICT and Sustainability in Higher Education”. It is the elaboration of SURF's Strategic Plan 2011-2014 on the topic of Green ICT and Sustainability.
