About AI and Microsoft in education

Several institutions are already experimenting with AI to improve the quality of education, for example, or to better adapt to needs. We organised the meeting Knowledge Sharing Education 365 together with MBO Digital, Microsoft and the mbo and hbo institutions. During this meeting, various MBO and HBO institutions shared their stories from educational practice in the form of workshops. In the keynote, Jeroen Strijbosch and Charlotte van Beijsterveld of Microsoft talked about the possibilities and the effect of generative AI on the way we work, learn and communicate. But they also reflected on our responsibility for this, asking questions such as: How do we ensure that generative AI is ethical, trustworthy and inclusive? How do we monitor the quality, authenticity and safety of what is generated? And how do we amplify human creativity, instead of replacing it?

Developing AI tools ethically

1956 is considered the birth of AI, Jeroen told us. Machine Learning came in about 1977, Deep Learning in 2017 and Generative AI in 2021. GPT-4 is OpenAI's most advanced system. It produces safer and more useful answers. When searching in Google, it was already important to use keywords properly; when giving commands to AI, it is even more important. Microsoft wants to develop AI tools in an ethical way and established a set of principles for responsible AI.
