  • Flow simulation wins Visualization Competition 2017

    News - Alexander Blass of the University of Twente has won the Visualization Competition 2017 with a visualization of direct numerical simulations of sheared thermal convection. The prize was awarded at the Super D Event on December 12.

  • Research for more efficient self-learning systems

    News - A computer which can autonomously recognise dangerous situations from security images: self-learning automated systems make this possible. A consortium of which SURFsara is a member has been awarded financing from NWO for a project to make deep learning - where computers learn new things independently - more efficient and transparent.

  • SURFsara supports SRON analysing Tropomi satellite data

    News - The European Sentinel-5P satellite was successfully launched into orbit today from Plesetsk in Siberia. Tropomi is a Dutch instrument on board the satellite that will survey global air quality and the distribution of greenhouse gases with unprecedented precision.

    News - The opening of the new SURFsara datacentre has meant that scientific research in the Netherlands can continue to compete with other global leaders. This is thanks to the growth options for procession power and data storage capacity.

  • National HPC infrastructure move complete

    News - The SURFsara national High Performance Computing infrastructure has been successfully moved to our new datacenter. All systems are back online and operating at full capacity. During the next 2 weeks we’ll be doing some final tests, but this will not affect users.

  • Securely scaling out computational intensive data analyses from UMCs to SURF

    News - SURF and the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) have successfully established a federated data analysis pipeline infrastructure connecting the high performance computing (HPC) cluster of LUMC and SURFsara’s HPC Cloud service. Researchers are using this connection for extra computing capacity.

    News - For the next two years, the Groningen-based company Bossers & Cnossen will be delivering the computing and storage equipment used by Nikhef, SURFnet and SURFsara, including the necessary licences, (administrator) software, and related maintenance and services.

  • New data centre Amsterdam Science Park completed

    News - SURFsara's new data centre at the Amsterdam Science Park was delivered on schedule on 1 July by builder and developer Telecity Group. SURFsara will rent 2 floors in the 72-meter-high building for the national high-performance-computing infrastructure.
