News - Learning & Student Analytics is steadily making its way from research to practice. To promote the available evidence, technology and many examples of good practices, the Amsterdam Center for Learning Analytics (ACLA) and the Eduworks-Network are organising a Learning & Student Analytics Conference, October 26 and 27 at the University of Amsterdam.
News - The online SURF Annual Review, which gives you a look back at 2016, contains a multitude of images, videos and links to publications and interviews. The Annual Review offers an overview of the activities that took place in 2016, and the results that SURF achieved working together with the various institutions.
News - For the second year in a row, SURF is inviting vocational education and training institutions, universities of applied sciences and research universities to nominate changemakers for the SURF Education Awards. Through these awards, SURF recognises the efforts of innovators who use ICT to enhance education.
News - For the first time, NWO, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, brought together researchers and SURF and other providers of ICT services for research. This took place on 30 March, at a workshop on ICT Infrastructures for Roadmap projects, at SURFsara in Amsterdam.
News - The opening of the new SURFsara datacentre has meant that scientific research in the Netherlands can continue to compete with other global leaders. This is thanks to the growth options for procession power and data storage capacity.
News - During The Education Days 2016 (Dé Onderwijsdagen 2016), SURF announced the winners of the first SURF Education Awards. In the teacher category, Farshida Zafar was the biggest change maker, Jan Haarhuis in the ICT and educational professionals category, and Anka Mulder in the board member category.
News - The number of users of the personal cloud storage service SURFdrive continues to increase. There are currently more than 20.000 users. Robert Al of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is the 20.000th user.
News - The Netherlands eScience Center has awarded the Young eScientist Award 2016 to Maureen van Eijnatten (25) from VU University Medical Center. The prize aims to stimulate a young scientist demonstrating excellence in eScience: the development or application of digital technology to address scientific challenges.
News - Institutions connected to SURFnet can now link their institution's infrastructure directly to the Microsoft cloud with SURFlichtpaden. SURFnet is working under the agreement that the European umbrella organisation GÉANT concluded with Microsoft. GÉANT is the first non-commercial party in the world with direct links via ExpressRoute.
News - The EU and the United States have reached a new agreement on the exchange of data (personal data). The so-called Privacy Shield was approved by the European Commission on 12 July and has come into force immediately. The Privacy Shield is the successor to Safe Harbor, which was declared invalid in October 2015.

News - As part of the SURF Web hosting cloud project, institutions and SURF will work together on the joint creation of a secure, high-quality web environment. The institutions have accepted SURF's proposed purchasing process, and in future will purchase web hosting services via an agreement with SURFmarket.

News - Three video tutorials provide (additional) explanations for SURFdrive users on popular functionalities of SURFdrive. These short clips are designed to answer users' practical questions on the web environment, on sharing files and folders and on synchronising with the SURFdrive client.
