SURFfilesender for users
Want to send and receive files quickly, securely and easily? With SURFfilesender, you can send large files, such as research data. SURFfilesender is also suitable for smaller files, such as reports. The files are stored in the Netherlands. Encryption provides added security.
SURFfilesender: for every file format
You can easily send extremely large files of research data using SURFfilesender, for example genome sequences or astronomical observations. But SURFfilesender is also suitable for smaller files such as reports.
Secure and reliable using encryption
With SURFfilesender, your files are sent securely. The uploaded files are stored in the Netherlands for no more than 21 days. Although SURFfilesender is already secure as it is, you can also opt for additional security in the form of encryption. Files up to 2 GB can be send using encryption. All you have to do is send the recipient a ‘key’ via a second channel: telephone or SMS, for example. The recipient then enters this key, which allows them to download the file. This way, you can determine who is allowed access to your valuable research data or confidential files.
Fast and user-friendly
SURFfilesender is very easy to use. You don't have to install anything in order to send and receive files. Both you and the recipient only need a modern browser. SURFfilesender is connected to SURFconext, so you can easily log in using your own institutional account. Guest access is also possible to enable the secure exchange of files with individuals without a SURFfilesender licence.
For institutions: making SURFfilesender available to users

Institutions can then offer SURFdrive to their users (mostly students, researchers and employees of that institution).
