Big data analytics & Visualisation
Researchers who need to analyse large amounts of (un)structured data can make use of the SURFsara Big Data Analytics services. Our Visualisation service allows you to visualise your own datasets on your desktop. This makes it easy to identify connections between data or gain other insight into your datasets.
Which services do we offer?
- Big Data refers to the handling of large, possibly unstructured data sets that can not, or not easily, be handled by standard technology. SURFsara offers several Big Data Analytics tools and frameworks, such as Apache Spark, Hive, Pig and HBase, which enable researchers to process large, structured or unstructured data sets.
- SURFsara's Visualisation service allows you to use a large number of nodes and GPUs, which in turn make it possible to visualise large datasets in various scales. The resulting visualisations are much larger than what is possible on a PC or laptop, but can be viewed on your own desktop system. This requires a modest amount of bandwidth – a typical office network (100+Mbit/s) is usually sufficient. Visualisation makes it easy to identify connections between data or gain other insight into your datasets.
The Collaboratorium is a meeting and presentation space offering state-of-the-art visualisation facilities, including a video wall with 4x2 Full HD screens (total resolution over 16 megapixels). The space is ideal for visually interpreting complex research data, giving presentations, holding brainstorming sessions and for video conferencing.
