Use case: International cancer research collaboration using SURF Research Cloud
The right treatment for the right person at the right time. That is the mission of the computational pathology research group at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. Working together with other institutions will speed up this goal. But when you want to collaborate internationally, there are several organisational and technical hurdles to overcome.
How can researchers who work with sensitive patient data adhere to privacy regulations and at the same time make their data FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable), so their research can have as much impact as possible for society? A question that Jelle ten Hoeven, head of Research IT at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), is confronted with when he is approached by the computational pathology research group at his institute.
Workspace for sharing data
This group’s mission is personalizing cancer treatment: the right treatment for the right person at the right time. They want to collaborate with Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland (IKNL) and the University of Helsinki by sharing clinical data, pathology data, and genomical data. For the storing, using and sharing of this data, with a total volume of about 250 GB, SURF Research Cloud turns out to be a fast and secure solution. A shared workspace, with authentication through SURF Research Access Management.
