Connecting third parties to the SURF network

If your institution is connected to the SURF network, you can, under certain conditions, register third parties to use the SURFinternet service. They can only use a network connection via SURF, and not the additional SURF services.

Who is eligible as a third party?

If you are connected to the SURF network, you can register a third party to use SURFinternet services. The third party must meet the following prerequisites:

  • The third party is a legal entity.
  • The third party's network is managed by the institution connected to the SURF network.
  • The third party has fewer than 100 full-time employees.
  • The third party belongs to the SURF target group or the third party is:
  • a partner in the research and development of the institution affiliated to SURF, or
  • a partner in the operational management of the institution connected to the SURF network.

Network connection only, no additional services

A third party that is connected to the SURF network will not receive a user agreement. This means that the third party will only receive the network connection from SURFinternet. This party therefore has no additional services at its disposal, such as SURFconext or SURFdomeinen.

If the third party belongs to the SURF target group and wishes to have additional infrastructure services provided by SURF, it can also connect directly to the SURF network.

Registering a third party

Are you connected to the SURF network and do you want a third party to use SURFinternet? Contact SURF Customer Support at customersupport@surf.nl. You can read exactly how the registration procedure for third-party traffic works in the application procedure (PDF).

Rates

The rates we charge to your institution for each third party can be found in the SURF Services and Rates brochure (PDF). You can pass these costs on to the third parties.
