SURF Research Cloud & SANE Training for Humanities Researchers
Find out how SURF’s Research Cloud and Secure ANalysis Environment (SANE) can support your research in the digital humanities.

During this practical training session, you will learn how to set up and manage a research workspace. You will work with commonly used research tools to access and analyse data, collaborate with project members, and handle sensitive or restricted datasets securely.
Using concrete workflows – from setting up a project to data analysis – you will discover how Research Cloud and SANE can support your research. The emphasis is on working efficiently and in a reproducible manner, with a focus on collaboration and the requirements for secure data access. No prior experience with these platforms is required.
During the training, you will gain hands-on experience with the platform. Please bring your own laptop so that you can fully participate in the exercises.

- How to access Research Cloud and SANE
- How to set up and manage virtual research environments
- How to collaborate with project members in shared workspaces
- How to work securely with sensitive and restricted data
- How to use commonly used research tools, such as Jupyter Notebook and RStudio
After the training, all participants will receive credits for a set period to further explore all the platform’s features.

This training course is part of the CLARIAH Digital Heritage and Humanities Summer School. The aim of the summer school is to familiarise participants – ranging from advanced Master’s students to experienced researchers – with approaches to digital heritage and the humanities that are widely applicable across various disciplines, such as history, heritage studies, oral history, media studies and the social sciences.
