SURF Research Cloud & SANE Training for Humanities Researchers
Discover how to use SURF’s Research Cloud and Secure ANalysis Environment (SANE) to support your digital humanities research.

In this hands-on training, participants will learn how to create and manage research workspaces, access and analyze data using common research tools, collaborate with project members, and work with sensitive or restricted datasets in a secure environment.
The session will cover practical workflows from project setup to data analysis, highlighting how Research Cloud and SANE can help humanities researchers work efficiently, reproducibly, and in compliance with data access requirements. No prior experience with the platforms is required.
The training includes a practical hands-on session in which participants will work directly with the platform. Please bring your own laptop to fully participate in the exercises.
Topics covered
- How to onboard to Research Cloud and SANE
- How to create and manage virtual research environments
- How to collaborate with project members in shared workspaces
- How to work securely with sensitive and restricted-access data
- How to use common research tools such as Jupyter Notebooks and R-Studio
All participants will receive some credits for a certain period of time to investigate all the platform features after the training has finished.

This workshop is intended for anyone who expresses interest in working with cloud computing solutions and secure environments. The workshop will be taught in English.

This training is part of the CLARIAH Digital Heritage and Humanities Summer School. The purpose of the summer school is to familiarise participants – from advanced MA students to experienced researchers – with digital heritage and humanities approaches that are broadly applicable in various fields: history, heritage studies, oral history, media studies, and the social sciences.
