Tender for quantum computer in the Netherlands opened
The quantum computer is part of a European infrastructure to enable hybrid classical quantum workflows. The tender has therefore been issued by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). European end-users from scientific research, industry and the public sector can start using it. The aim: to stimulate cutting-edge research and industrial innovation in specific applications, such as climate modelling to predict weather patterns.
Europe at the forefront
The hosting agreement between EuroHPC JU and SURF was signed in December 2024. So far, EuroHPC JU has acquired six quantum computers spread across Europe. The deployment of these quantum computers is aimed at providing the widest possible variety of European quantum computing platforms and hybrid classical quantum architectures. This approach puts Europe at the forefront of this emerging field.
Role EuroHPC JU
EuroHPC JU was established in 2018 to enable the European Union and the countries participating in EuroHPC to coordinate their efforts and pool their resources with the aim of making Europe a world leader in supercomputing. European scientists and users from the public sector and industry can benefit from EuroHPC supercomputing through the so-called EuroHPC access calls, regardless of where they are located in Europe. This boosts science and supports the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific and societal relevance for Europe.
