Andres Steijaert wins the GÉANT Community Award 2018

Andres Steijaert, SURF employee, received the GÉANT Community Award 2018 during TNC18 in Trondheim. GÉANT, the European education and research network, awarded Steijaert the prize for the unstinting commitment he has brought to his work on providing a good and secure cloud service for European education and research. The jury's vote was unanimous.

Cloud activity leader at GÉANT

Steijaert is the cloud activity leader at GÉANT Cloud Services. In this role, he coordinates the cloud collaboration of the European NRENs (national research and education networks) in GÉANT. Within this collaboration, NRENs share expertise and resources and take a common approach to the cloud services market. This has the goal of making cloud services simple and safe for European education and research to use.

Boundless energy and optimismAndres Steijaert

Steijaert was praised among other things for the fact that he has been the driving force for a number of years in the development of innovative cloud services. He heads up GÉANT Cloud Services with "boundless energy and optimism, combined with great organisational and negotiating skills". Ingrid Melve, member of the jury for the GÉANT Community Award 2018: "With his persistence, ability and consistent effort, Andres has changed the way NRENs collaborate and has harmoniously brought the community together." GÉANT hands out its Community Award annually to someone who has made a major contribution to the network community for education and research in Europe.
