Coordinating SURF Contacts
Each institution that is a SURF member has its own representative at SURF: the Coordinating SURF Contact (CSC). This contact person streamlines and coordinates communication between the institution and SURF. The CSC is appointed by the institution's management.
Role of the CSC
The CSC ensures proper coordination between the institution's employees and SURF. CSCs provide advice to their Executive Board on SURF's direction and the connection between supply and demand. Within their institution, they make sure that everyone knows that the institution is cooperating with SURF and who is the first point of contact for the institution within SURF. They also enable the SURF organisation to get things done together with the right people at the institution.
Sector meetings and coordination with the Board of Directors
The CSCs regularly consult with colleagues from their own sector at their sector's CSC meetings. The CSCs advise the Members' Council in every meeting on the proposed decisions taken by SURF, with written recommendations that they submit to the Members' Council via the secretary.
SURF serves 5 sectors: research universities (WO), universities of applied sciences (HBO), secondary vocational educational institutions (MBO), university medical centres (UMCs) and research. The members of SURF are categorised into 6 departments: research universities (WO), universities of applied sciences (HBO), secondary vocational educational institutions (MBO), university medical centres (UMCs), research and other members.
A SURF adviser is present at each CSC sector meeting:
- Research universities (WO): Roland Staring
- Universities of applied sciences (HBO): Jasper Distelbrink
- Secondary vocational educational institutions (MBO): Remco Rutten
- University medical centres (UMCs): Wies Breeksema
- Research and other members: Ivo Reints and Wies Breeksema
The (vice-)chairs of the 5 sector meetings meet regularly to coordinate their efforts. They also meet with the SURF Board of Directors 4 times a year to discuss matters such as:
- Developments in the SURF services portfolio
- Price developments
- Services provided by SURF
- Progress of innovation programmes
- Long-term and annual plans
- Developments within SURF
- Cross-sector developments
