Call for applications Wim Nieuwpoort Award 2017

In order to advance scalability of applications, SURFsara has the pleasure to announce that the call for proposals for the annual Wim Nieuwpoort Award, edition 2017, is open. The winner will be announced at the Super D event on December 12, 2017.

Efficiently using the Dutch National Supercomputer

This annual award will be awarded to the research team, located at a Dutch university or scientific institute, which proves to be able to run a serious scientific application efficiently on a significant part of the Dutch large HPC-system (Cartesius). In collaboration with NWO’s current scientific committee (WGS), SURFsara will be responsible for the review of the proposals.


The Wim Nieuwpoort Award 2017 consists of an amount of € 2500 and a visit to the annual supercomputing & communications conference in November 2018 in the United States, during which conference the research and scalability results can be presented in the SURF booth, or another conference of choice.

Wim Nieuwpoort

This award is named after the founder of the national high-performance computing infrastructure in the Netherlands, professor emeritus Wim Nieuwpoort of the University of Groningen. Wim Nieuwpoort has been chair of NWO/NCF’s Scientific Committee (WGS) and temporary director of SARA Computing and Network Services.
