SCIPR: working together to improve information security and privacy
Who are we?
SCIPR stands for SURF Community for Information Security and Privacy. Anyone interested in information security and/or privacy who works at a SURF member institution can participate in SCIPR. In twenty years, we have grown from a small group of enthusiasts to a community of more than 700 members.
What do we do?
The primary goal of SCIPR is knowledge sharing and collaboration. How can we make sure we are not each reinventing the wheel? And how can we ensure that we properly link the various activities of bodies within our sectors?
To this end, we keep in close contact with the other consultative bodies in this field operating within the sector to ensure that proceeds from them can be shared more widely. And we organise all kinds of activities to share as much as possible.
Activities you can take part in
- We organise quarterly meetings to meet and exchange information on what is happening within the sector in the field of information security and privacy.
- We organise working groups around topics where a lot of cooperation is desired. The results of such working groups are published on the security expertise centre (sec.surf.nl) and the privacy expertise centre (pec.surf.nl).
- Every year we hold a big two-day conference together with colleagues from the operational security community SCIRT.
- Once every few years, we organise a study trip to see how colleagues in other countries are doing.
- And finally, we share questions and good practices with each other in an accessible way via a mailing list.
How can you contribute yourself?
You can contribute by:
- Sharing your questions and solutions via the mailing list.
- Occasionally presenting and/or putting something on the agenda at the quarterly meetings and the annual conference.
- Participating in a working group if there is a topic of interest to you.
