Within the education sector, we use many different systems to develop and manage our knowledge platforms. Through the Content eXchange Platform (CXP) pilot, we are investigating how we can organise this more efficiently.
By utilising a shared infrastructure, we can reduce costs and make knowledge products in Dutch education easier to find, share and reuse.
What is the Content eXchange Platform?
The Content eXchange Platform provides the technology behind knowledge portals and is not a standalone portal. End users therefore do not recognise the CXP as such.
The CXP offers reliable, innovative and reusable managed services for knowledge portals. It collects knowledge products from trusted source systems in a central location and enriches them through services such as indexing, cataloguing and assessment.
These knowledge products, such as research studies, but also teaching materials and datasets, are then made available to the various portals that use the platform.
Institutions and knowledge portals can also easily share their products with other institutions via the CXP, on their own terms. This can be done via an existing portal or, following the pilot phase, via their own knowledge portal built using the CXP.
Pilot duration
The CXP is being tested with the knowledge bases associated with SURF and Npuls, as well as with portals run by cooperative members. If the platform proves successful and the cooperative members wish to take the next step, we expect the CXP to be launched as a service in 2028.
