SURFeduhub: secure exchange of educational data

SURFeduhub is the platform for sharing educational data between Dutch educational institutions. Safely and via open standards. For example, students can easily view the educational programmes of their own institution and other institutions, timetables or study progress information.

SURFeduhub and Registration of Institutions and Programmes (RIO)

SURFeduhub will become the standard for filling DUO's Registration of Institutions and Programmes (RIO) for higher education. By mid-2022, SURFeduhub will be linked and institutions can prepare to automatically upload education data to RIO in the future.

SURFeduhub service development for linking to RIO

SURF is working on technical adjustments to the SURFeduhub service and the OOAPI v4 standard to enable the link to RIO. We will therefore launch a new version in the summer; the OOAPI v5 standard. Subsequently, institutions' endpoints must be converted to endpoints based on OOAPI v5. A number of institutions are taking part in a pilot to make this happen.

Pilot to convert and link endpoints

The pilot participants will implement an OOAPI endpoint in July. These institutions are chosen so that all major SIS (Student Information System) vendors are represented and different types of OOAPI endpoints are used.

Technical drop-in sessions for all institutions

For all institutions, we organise monthly walk-in sessions for technical questions on implementing an OOAPI endpoint and specific questions on the 'mapping' between the OOAPI endpoints and RIO. The first session is scheduled for Wednesday 13 July. The possibility to register for this and new dates will follow later.

Link to SURFeduhub

From 1 September, all institutions can start (re)building an OOAPI endpoint. Once that is done, SURF will move on to connecting the institution to SURFeduhub. Until the end of December, we will be testing with the parties involved: institutions, DUO, suppliers and SURF.
