Training on behavioural change for cybersecurity and privacy awareness
Cybersecurity and privacy awareness are important to increase institutions' cyber resilience. With behavioural insights, you develop effective cybersecurity and privacy activities. This training will give you tools to change behaviour and better focus your awareness on target behaviour.

Within the SCIPR community, information security and privacy professionals work together to increase cyber resilience. SURF organises this training to jointly build knowledge and exchange practical experience on awareness and behavioural change.
About the training
Using inspiring practical examples, you will gain insight into how behaviour is influenced and what the desired and undesired effects are. You will learn which (unconscious) motives drive human behaviour and how you can respond to these, including with techniques such as nudging.
The training is provided by Paul Peeters and Diede Wijnveen of the Behavior Change Academy. They cover the different forms of resistance people can experience and show how these can be effectively reduced. In doing so, they use interventions they have developed themselves and apply successfully in practice.
Case study
During the training you learn to apply the knowledge gained to your own practical case. This way, you make a start on a stronger awareness activity aimed at behavioural change.
Return day
On the second training day, you learn from each other how you have put the case study into practice. What did you apply from the training? What do you find difficult and why? What problems did you encounter? On the basis of the questions, the trainers provide tools.
What will you learn?
After attending this training course, you will have a better understanding of why people do what they do. You can create more effective awareness activities and campaigns and learn techniques for dealing with resistance. In the training you will learn:
- What basic needs people have and how that constantly drives our behaviour.
- The most common motives and resistances that influence human behaviour.
- How to respond to these motives and resistances to be successful in behaviour change.
- And you are inspired to use this knowledge to stimulate the desired behaviour in your target group.
