This course teaches data supporters basic knowledge and skills (essentials) to take the first steps in supporting researchers in storing, managing, archiving and sharing research data. After the course, you will have an overview of the different phases of scientific research data. For each phase, you will get tools to advise researchers on adding value to their research data.

Course information

The course comprises two days of in-person teaching, complemented by online learning materials and weekly assignments. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of all course components.  

The in-person teaching sessions will take place on Tuesday 10 February 2026 and Thursday 26 March 2026, both located at DANS in The Hague. The instructors are DANS’ Research Data Management Specialists Venkataraman Shanmugasundaram and Kim Ferguson. The language of instruction will be English.

Research Data Netherlands (RDNL), a national coalition of data service providers and expertise networks (including SURF) whose mission is to promote implementation and long-term sustainability of FAIR research data in the Netherlands.
