Workshop

What does practice-oriented digital infrastructure need?

What challenges do you face as a researcher when working with digital research infrastructure? In this workshop, we connect the challenges of applied research with SURF’s innovation programmes.

We start with research workflows: what steps does a researcher go through during their research, and which systems within the digital infrastructure do they use? By examining these workflows, we identify bottlenecks, both technical and organisational.

We then explore whether innovations are already underway to address these bottlenecks and how practice-oriented research can be involved. Alternatively, we discuss what new innovations are needed and feasible. The insights gathered will inform SURF’s current and future innovation projects.

Examples of bottlenecks

  • A researcher lacks a suitable collaborative environment for their type of data or specific research partners.
  • Bringing together data from different sources requires considerable time and effort.
  • A workflow is difficult to optimise because each system requires separate login credentials.

Who is this for?

Researchers in applied research, members of Centres of Expertise, research support staff in universities of applied sciences, data lab coordinators and information managers in universities of applied sciences.
