News - Utrecht University of Applied Sciences is starting the learning analytics experiment in the Statistics course. 200 students studying Technical Business Management will participate. Also, the online study activities of over 50 students in the Curriculum Design and ICT-based education modules of the English teacher programme will be researched.

News - During The Education Days 2016 (Dé Onderwijsdagen 2016), SURF announced the winners of the first SURF Education Awards. In the teacher category, Farshida Zafar was the biggest change maker, Jan Haarhuis in the ICT and educational professionals category, and Anka Mulder in the board member category.
News - In the coming months, SURFnet is set to sign contracts with 8 providers that will provide Dutch education and research institutions with affordable and secure IaaS cloud services. Following a major pan-European tender, Dutch institutions can use IaaS services through SURFnet for the next 4 years without needing to issue their own calls for tenders.
News - A tender for the photonic layer of SURFnet8 has been awarded: ECI Telecom was selected as the best candidate. In 2017, ECI Telecom and SURFnet will start migrating the present photonic network, after which the institutions will be able to count on 100 Gbit/s connectivity and automatic recovery of optical channels.
News - The SURFsara national High Performance Computing infrastructure has been successfully moved to our new datacenter. All systems are back online and operating at full capacity. During the next 2 weeks we’ll be doing some final tests, but this will not affect users.

News - SURF and the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) have successfully established a federated data analysis pipeline infrastructure connecting the high performance computing (HPC) cluster of LUMC and SURFsara’s HPC Cloud service. Researchers are using this connection for extra computing capacity.
News - The Netherlands eScience Center has awarded the Young eScientist Award 2016 to Maureen van Eijnatten (25) from VU University Medical Center.
