Change of duties for SURF board member Hans Louwhoff

Hans Louwhoff has decided, for personal reasons, to step back from his board duties at SURF. He will remain employed by SURF and will focus, among other things, on the AI Factory, but he will no longer serve as an active board member.

Until his retirement – scheduled for March 2027 – Hans will stay at SURF to keep the AI Factory on track. Consequently, there will be no formal farewell for him just yet. Part of his workload will be taken over by the 2 other board members, Ron Augustus and Pauline Satter, together with the executive team.

“I have truly enjoyed serving on the SURF board. Until I retire, there are a few things I still want to focus on, with the AI Factory being the most important.”
Hans Louwhoff

Hans Louwhoff has been a SURF director since 2020. In his early years as COO, he did a great deal of work to get SURF’s service portfolio in order. He has also championed large scale computing in the Netherlands, being closely involved with the Snellius supercomputer and the Dutch AI Factory.

“We’re going to miss Hans enormously on the board – not only because we’ll have to manage without his knowledge and experience, but especially because we’ve always enjoyed working together. We’ll sorely miss his expertise, sense of humour, and that quintessential Rotterdam style pragmatism.”
Ron Augustus, Chair of the SURF Board
