Finding and sharing learning materials: more vocational education institutions are using edusources
Sharing is important
Sharing learning materials aligns with the ambitions of the MBO Raad, Npuls and SURF to make education more flexible, up-to-date and better organised collectively.
By working together as a sector on learning materials, you gain:
- Access to up-to-date and high-quality materials
- Greater freedom of choice in high-quality materials
- Better opportunities to tailor materials to different target groups and learning pathways
Successful pilot leads to scaling up of services
As part of the collaboration between the MBO Raad, Npuls and SURF, a pilot was launched in 2025 with the Engineering and Built Environment sector. Mbo institutions have already shared more than 500 learning materials via edusources.
Two other sectors are now also set to share learning materials: Mobility, Transport, Logistics and Maritime (MTLM) and Food, Green and Hospitality (VGG). We are talking to other MBO sectors about scaling up as well.
How to share materials
Sharing learning materials via edusources is simple and fits in with existing working methods. Materials are made available from the institution’s own source system or via a link to edusources.
Institutions decide for themselves:
- Whether material is open, semi-open or restricted
- Under what conditions others can use the material
- How the material is described and made discoverable
SURF and the MBO Raad support your institution with the technical integration and offer practical help to get started quickly. Will you join us?

What is edusources?
Edusources is the national portal for digital learning materials in further education (mbo, hbo, wo). The portal allows you to easily search for, find, reuse and share learning materials.
