    Event - Have you ever wondered how ICT can boost your research? Discover new possibilities and do more with your data. On Thursday 10 November 2016, SURFacademy, Delft University of Technology and partners provided a full day of Research ICT training for researchers and research support staff.

    Hands-on Python Booster Session

    Event - On 3 October, together with DataComputing, SURFacademy organised a one-day Python Session. This training has been designed to introduce researchers to Python. Practical applications of this programming language were reviewed and typical programming situations were used to practise with.

    Workshop Scalable data analysis with Apache Spark and Hadoop

    Event - On 3-7 September 2016, the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences, the BioSB research school and ELIXIR jointly organised the fifteenth edition of the European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB 2016). During the conference, SURFsara provided a workshop on Apache Spark and Hadoop.

    Event - On 29 August-1 September, SURFsara, the VU and UvA organised the 4th international ICT for Sustainability conference (ICT4S) in Amsterdam. The conference offered different workshops, paper presentations, open sessions and keynotes on the latest research in the field of ICT and sustainability.     Workshop OpenConext

    Event - OpenConext is an open source collaboration management platform. It makes make collaboration easier for users in research and education. This workshop on 4 and 5 July 2016 was the starting place for getting to know OpenConext, its technologies, use cases, the code itself and all other OpenConext project and OpenConext community related information.

    Hackathon SSH in combination with SURFconext

    Event - On 25 February 2016 SURFacademy hosted a hackathon where you went to work with the draft resolution of SURFnet to use Secure Shell (SSH) i.c.m. federated login (eg. SURFconext). The workshop was intended for employees of institutions who control that users have access to the systems via SSH.

    Essential skills in data-intensive research: enabling your research in the life sciences

    Event - From 25-29 January the first edition of the SURFacademy workshop Essential skills in data-intensive research took place in Utrecht. This training is a collaborative effort of the Netherlands eScience Center, SURFsara, the Dutch Techcenter for Life Science (DTL), VU University Amsterdam and the Software and Data Carpentry foundation.

    Seminar ORCID

    Event - A small group of universities in the Netherlands is now developing plans to implement ORCID within their institutions. On Thursday 21 January 2016, SURFacademy organised a seminar to broaden the knowledge about ORCID in the Netherlands and to disseminate the plans that the different pilot partners are pursing.

    SURFsara Super D Event

    Event - SURFsara, the national e-infrastructure centre for academic and industrial research, organised its annual event on December 15, 2015. The event took place at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam, and had as theme ‘where science meets e-infrastructure’.

    Fortissimo Forum 2015 in Amsterdam

    Event - On 8 July 2015, the Fortissimo consortium organised its second Fortissimo Forum in Amsterdam. The Forum is a platform for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Service Providers, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and technical experts around the theme of HPC applications in the cloud.

    Successful SIG meeting "Compute Resources for Life Science Research"

    Event - On 22 April 2015, the second meeting of the special interest group "Compute Resources for Life Science Research" (CRLS) took place. This special interest group (SIG) has been initiated in January 2015 to discuss requirements, use cases and models to scale out compute resources.
