Masterclass on personal effectiveness for security and privacy professionals

The masterclass consists of three days of classroom sessions. Beforehand, there will be a half-hour telephone intake session to discuss your personal learning objectives. This input, together with a SWOT analysis that you will draw up during the course, will serve as your guide for the masterclass.

Throughout the masterclass, there will be ample opportunity to discuss your learning objectives or any challenges at work with the tutors on a one-to-one basis. At the end of the masterclass, you will practise with actors and present your learning insights in an action plan to the other participants.

The masterclass is highly interactive. It is primarily a practical course in which you will also contribute your own case studies (which will, of course, be treated in strict confidence). For some sessions, you will be provided with reading material and/or given a few targeted homework questions.

Programme

Day 1: Tuesday 9 March 2027

09.00 to 13.00: Personal effectiveness: you and others

Following a brief introduction, we will work under the guidance of Anton Pieter van Logtestijn on your motivations and those of others (based on a pre-course MMI-7-colour questionnaire), limiting patterns and unconscious beliefs. How can you better persuade others by gaining a deeper understanding of their motivations? What makes some people more effective than others? What can you learn from this? How can you be (more) persuasive with managers, even when pressure from the organisation is mounting or when you cannot force decisions?

1.30 pm to 4.15 pm: Personal effectiveness: you and the organisation

In the afternoon, the focus shifts to persuading your own team, other departments, other organisations or the board. What are they sensitive to? What do they want to achieve and avoid? Where do common interests and win-win situations lie? How can cohesion, feedback, dialogue, addressing concerns and trust contribute to success? Why is E=KxA so important to remember and apply? How can you build and strengthen trust?

Day 2: Monday 15 March 2027

09.00 to 13.00: Personal effectiveness and my management style

Roland Notermans provides a fast-paced overview of the essentials of governance, risk, compliance and integrity. He shares plenty of practical tips, best practices and good examples that you can apply straight away to enhance the effectiveness of your approach. In doing so, Roland discusses questions such as: what are hard and soft controls and nudges, and what do you need to know about them? How can you put them into practice? What good examples does he see in many other organisations that we could also apply ourselves? Why do they enhance the effectiveness of your programme? What can we learn from Amy Edmondson, Naomi Ellemers, and Nobel Prize winners Richard Thaler and Daniel Kahneman? How do you increase effectiveness and win over managers?

1.30 pm to 4.15 pm: (Inter)personal effectiveness and others

This afternoon is dedicated to strengthening your personal effectiveness through a better understanding of yourself and others. Roland shares his insights on core qualities, pitfalls, sensitivities and challenges. He explores the essence of better negotiation according to the Harvard method and emphasises the importance of better understanding others in interpersonal communication. All this with the aim of increasing both your own effectiveness and that of your approach.

Day 3: Tuesday 13 April 2027

09.00 to 12.30: Practising personal effectiveness

We’ll focus on questions such as:

• How do I handle my most difficult conversations?
• How do I come across, and how can I be more effective in groups?
• How do I deal with strong resistance or even intimidation?

We’ll do this by practising with actors based on your own case study. If you wish, you can practise the most difficult conversations by trying out different styles a few times.

1.00 pm to 4.30 pm: Personal presentations and learning from one another

On the final day of the course, based on your own SWOT analysis and the lessons learnt over the past few weeks, you will present an action plan to increase your effectiveness and ensure your programme is better received.

Expected outcomes

The masterclass helps you bridge the gap between the role of a professional and that of an effective trusted adviser. The course deepens your skills in motivating managers, groups and naysayers, facilitating difficult dilemmas, and integrating the latest insights, best practices and tips into your own approach.

Under the guidance of experienced trainers, you will improve your ability to position yourself as a fully-fledged discussion partner for the board, senior management and front-line staff.

The masterclass provides a concrete action plan and a certificate of attendance from De Compliance Academie worth 20 PE/PO points.

For whom?

Security and privacy professionals, CISOs, IT managers and (future) managers who wish to develop their skills under the guidance of experienced experts – and alongside a group of like-minded peers. The aim is to gain greater insight into how these skills can be developed and strengthened. After the masterclass, you will have:
