Keynote by Giacomo Carrara: “Protect your data against the looming quantum threat”

The rise of quantum computers poses a serious threat to our digital security infrastructure. How can we protect the data of our educational and research institutions against this? Giacomo Carrara, a quantum communications specialist at IMEC, will discuss this on 26 June during the Security & Privacy Conference 2026.

In his keynote, Carrara explains how and why quantum technology can break through current encryption methods. He will also discuss the implications for organisations, the solutions already available to protect data, and how we can use them to increase our resilience. His message is clear: quantum computers are putting digital security under pressure, and this calls for urgent action.

About Giacomo Carrara

Carrara is a quantum specialist and works at IMEC on international projects concerning secure quantum communication, including the BENELUX-QCI project. He previously obtained his PhD in theoretical quantum cryptography and worked on the BeQCI project, which focuses on practical applications of quantum communication technology.
