Registration criteria Mijn SURF
In order to connect your educational institution to SURF and make use of our services and licences, your institution must meet all the applicable conditions. See below to find out which conditions apply to your type of institution.
Designated and various educational institutions
An educational institution recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, but which is not funded by that ministry. The study programmes offered are accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO).
University medical centres
Listed as ‘academic hospitals’ in the annex to the Higher Education and Scientific Research Act.
Research institutions
Research institutions that are funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to the extent of at least 50 per cent. These institutions are non-commercial (i.e. non-profit or not-for-profit) and carry out scientific research. Research institutions funded by another ministry may also be eligible. These institutions must also be non-commercial. They also have close links with one or more universities. These links are evident, for example, from the presence of chairs, a board comprising representatives from universities, or the fact that at least 50 per cent of the researchers are employed by a university.
Major technological institutes
Knowledge institutions focused on applying fundamental knowledge. They do this by conducting research for – and providing services to – the government, the business sector and civil society organisations. In addition to direct funding from their clients, the GTIs also receive government grants. GTI status is granted by the government.
Universities
Listed as a ‘university’ in the annex to the Higher Education and Scientific Research Act.
Universities of Applied Sciences
Listed as a ‘university of applied sciences’ in the annex to the Higher Education and Scientific Research Act.
Vocational colleges
State-funded institutions for education and vocational training. These include:
- regional training centres
- vocational colleges
- agricultural training centres
Does your institution meet the criteria?
If so, you can register your institution. Please ensure you submit the necessary evidence to demonstrate that your institution meets the criteria. Depending on the conditions, you can submit a copy of the following original documents:
- recent annual report
- recent annual accounts
- recent annual plan
- articles of association
- letters and/or statements from the Ministry specifying roles, grants, etc.
