Project EduXS

Across Europe, educational institutions are working on digital innovations such as microcredentials, student mobility and course sharing. More than 570 higher education institutions are involved within the more than 65 European University Alliances alone. National ministries and NRENs are also developing digital infrastructures and services to support these ambitions.

Yet getting an overview proves difficult. Information on pilots, standards and services is often fragmented or outdated. This makes it difficult to coordinate initiatives, reuse successful solutions and properly substantiate policy choices. In short, it slows down innovation.

Purpose of EduXS

EduXS is a shared, up-to-date knowledge base that brings overview and coherence to the European landscape of digital education infrastructure. The platform helps education professionals find, connect and reuse existing knowledge. In this way, EduXS supports policymakers, educational institutions, architects, technical experts and suppliers and developers in making informed choices and strengthening cooperation at national and European level.

Approach

EduXS organises information based on several recognisable perspectives. One is a learner's learning journey, as defined in the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH), with eight steps: Discover, Apply, Enrol, Learn, Assess, Certify, Showcase and Verify.

In addition, EduXS provides structure through other 'capstans', such as themes (e.g. microcredentials or mobility), roles (such as policy maker or architect), and technical elements (such as standards, building blocks or services). This creates a relational and searchable whole in which coherence and context are central.

The interconnection between all these elements is established on the basis of a common information model. This information model forms the backbone of the platform and makes it possible to establish meaningful relationships between content from different sources and perspectives.
