XR (extended reality)
XR Developer Network

The XR Developer Network is a community of professionals who are interested in more technicals topics related to use of XR within education and/or research. For example, XR software development and devices, 3D graphics in XR scenes, or security and networking challenges. The aim of the network is to raise our shared technological knowledge level of XR, and exchange tips, tricks, code, solutions or contacts.
The network is not tied to a specific application domain or sector. Nor do you need to have technical knowledge to participate. The network currently has around 70 members from different institutions and sectors in the SURF community.
Activities
The XR Developer Network has been active since January 2023 and organises a series of meetings each year, both online and on-site. On-site meetings allow you to meet in person and provide opportunities for trying or showing XR demos and devices. Keep an eye on this page for updates.

Want to become a member?
Come join the 70 members of the network, to attend the in-person and online meetings, and stay in touch on XR development!
Send an e-mail to xr@surf.nl with a request to join the network. You will be added to the mailing list, to keep you informed of future activities.
Note: You do not need to have a technical background to become a member (but it helps in following the topics)! The only condition is that your institution is a member of SURF.
Would you like to contribute?
We aim to announce the topic of the next meeting(s) some time in advance so that we can find appropriate speakers. If you would like to present on a planned topic, or have other suggestions for topics, please get in touch.
Apart from that, there is always room to introduce other types of activities (such as a demo session, a hackathon, etc.). We would love to hear your ideas and discuss them further!
Looking for the XR Innovation Forum?
From February 2024 until June 2025 the XR Innovation Forum ran as a pilot, to evaluate if an online discussion forum was an effective platform for increasing interaction and knowledge sharing around XR. Based on the evaluation, the forum was not continued after the pilot ended.
