XR (extended reality)
XR in education and research
XR technology (extended reality) is an umbrella term for Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). XR allows you to simulate a real-world experience within a virtual environment.
Different forms within XR
- VR creates a fully computer-generated environment that replaces the real world.
- AR adds digital information or virtual objects to the physical world.
- MR goes a step further than AR by enabling interaction between the user and virtual elements.
Role of SURF
SURF organises events, publishes reports on XR, and brings together professionals from education and research to discuss XR. You can also join the XR Developers Network.
XR Developers Network
With the XR Developers Network, we aim to bring people together to advance the use of XR in education and research in the Netherlands from a technical and development perspective. The XR Developers Network regularly organises meetings and is building a thriving community around the technical aspects of eXtended Reality. Interested in joining?
