Future Campus scenarios report

Digitalisation, sustainability and changing learning needs are setting the campus in motion. Four future scenarios help MBO, HBO and WO institutions look ahead and make strategic choices for the campus of 2040. These scenarios not only provide guidance, but are also a powerful tool for dialogue about desirable and undesirable futures. In this way, SURF contributes to the development of flexible, inclusive and future-proof learning environments - physical and digital. Find out how, as an institution, you can actively shape the future using these scenarios.

Future Campus trend report

This trend report describes thirteen key trends affecting campus development in senior secondary vocational, higher vocational and university education in 2040, both virtual and physical. SURF uses the trends as input for developing future scenarios for the campus. Educational institutions can use the trends for their own future analyses. The trends come from desk research carried out by various experts from educational, technological and accommodation perspectives.

Predicting the future is impossible. But for long-term policy in particular, preparing for possible futures is important. By describing the trends, SURF provides an overview of possible developments, which can inspire and spur campus innovation and anticipation.
