Project EduXS

EduXS is a collaborative, up-to-date knowledge base that brings overview and coherence to the European landscape of digital education infrastructure. The platform helps education professionals find, connect and reuse existing knowledge.

Project Beeldtaal

Interoperability is a very abstract and layered concept. In colloquial language, it turns out to be really difficult to communicate on this topic, because it is simply too complex. While we do need to have that conversation.With Npuls, we are working on visual language for interoperability to support conversations about digitisation of education.

DC4EU

From April 2023 to spring 2025, SURF, with several Dutch higher education institutions and DUO, participated in the Digital Credentials for Europe (DC4EU) consortium. In this partnership, more than 100 organisations from 25 countries worked on the development of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet): a system for the secure exchange of official documents such as digital diplomas, microcredentials, but also, for example, your driving licence.

WE BUILD: building credentials together

Within the EU Digital Identity Framework, the large-scale European pilot WE BUILD was launched in September 2025. Within it, SURF is working with Sweden's NREN Sunet, Greece's NREN GRnet, the university partnership GUnet and various private partners on BU5, a business use case. This collaboration focuses on digital publishing and verification of microcredentials and skills.

Collaborations

  • We are collaborating within the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) on the development of a European framework for international interoperability in higher education and the design of an associated reference architecture.
  • For networking, we are active in organisations and initiatives such as Géant, EUNIS, 1EdTech and Erasmus Without Papers (EWP).
