Institutions opt for purchasing process in SURF Web hosting cloud project
18 MAY 2016
As part of the SURF Web hosting cloud project, institutions and SURF will work together on the joint creation of a secure, high-quality web environment. The institutions have accepted SURF's proposed purchasing process, and in future will purchase web hosting services via an agreement with SURFmarket.
Web hosting services specified
In 2015, the relevant institutions (University of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the University of Groningen, VU University Amsterdam and Wageningen UR) worked with SURF to create a set of functional and other requirements for web hosting services, with an emphasis on security and privacy aspects.
There has been a positive response to the purchasing process among the SURF target audience, as market parties will be expected to be able to offer services that meet the set specifications. VU University Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and many other institutions showed particular interest in the process. SURF's proposed purchasing process has now been accepted and SURFmarket will organise the purchasing of services from the market, paying specific attention to the security and privacy aspects that are essential to education and research institutions.
Secure, high-quality web environment
The Web hosting project aims to create a high-quality and secure online environment that enables users to create their own website quickly and easily, with an emphasis on high levels of security, user-friendliness and low administrative overheads for clients.
